Prof. Russell Meares M.D. - AUSTRALIA

Dr Russell Meares is a Professor of Psychiatry at Sydney University and the Director of Psychiatry at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, Australia. He trained in psychiatry at the Maudsley and Bethlem Royal Hospital, London.

Influenced by his experiences in London with patients with severe personality disorders, Dr Meares has developed a model of psychotherapy that focuses on psychology of self. Russell has written extensively on psychodynamic and psychotherapy issues. In recent years he has published two books, "The Metaphor of Play" and "Intimacy and Alienation" which deal with development issues and emotional trauma. Russell has been the leading figure in the formation of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychotherapy.

In recent years he has published on trauma and dissociation in the American Journal of Psychiatry.
