We were born to manifest the glory that is within us. It is not just within some of us: it is in everyone. And when we let our light shine, we unconciously give other people permission to do the same.

Nelson Mandela

We take a whole-person, humanistic and principle-centred approach to our work. Our role is to assist people to explore, understand and act on ways to enrich their life experience.

Balance of mind, body, soul and spirit is key. To this end, we combine discussion, education and solution-focused strategies (mind) with sensorimotor or somatic awareness (body) and healthy emotional development (soul) along with respecting what gives meaning and purpose to each person (spirit). We do not ascribe to any particular psychological, religious or political school of thought in our approach.

Consultations are tailored to suit each individual's requirements in collaboration with him or her. Clients choose what they wish to work with and are provided with the opportunity to review the process at intervals of 6-12 weeks as they prefer.

In essence, we believe every person has the ability to learn how to best guide him or herself through personal issues, past and present conflicts and toward a life that reflects their developing potential and vision. Enhancing well-being and fulfilment is fundamental.

Inherent in this, is the premise that we all have choice as to how we deal with our life experiences and what we make of these. This includes addressing the impact of circumstances that we could not, and can not, control. It also involves exploring the decisions we make, and consequent actions we take, in situations where we are able to effect the outcome. How we go about achieving this is more important than the fact that we achieved it.

Part of this process for people who have endured severe and extreme stress, trauma, or abuse, is to understand and work with the natural, protective defence mechanisms that have helped him or her to cope or survive. These defences develop as ways of adapting to the demands of situations in which he or she had no real choice.

While valuable and protective at the time of the undue stress, these behaviours, beliefs and perceptions can become problematic in themselves. By respecting the purpose and benefit of defences, the individual can begin to work with, rather than against, him or herself. This assists in learning better ways of meeting his or her needs instead of unconsciously re-enacting past negative experiences.

"Know Thyself" is written above an ancient temple in Delphi, Greece. People consulted oracles at Delphi with various concerns. We believe people are best served in being assisted to find answers within themselves at a pace that suits each individual.
